The continuing post-operative care is in your hands.  There are a few things that you should be aware of, so we have listed them here.  If you have any questions or problems, or if you'd like to tell us about your pet's condition, please call.  Our number is 903-657-9212.

Please examine your cat's feet daily and call us if you notice any of the following:

  • Increased swelling or limping on one foot
  • Discharge of pus or blood from the incision
  • If the incisions begin to look open
  • Redness

There are no stitches to be removed

Please use strips of newspaper or paper towels instead of her regular litter for 7 days after surgery.  This will prevent litter from adhering to the incision site and allow for a quiker recovery.

The larger the cat, the more slowly they recover from this surgery due to the increased weight on their feet.  Most cats are almost back to normal within 1-2 weeks, and somewhat sooner for younger cats.

You may find that your pet is reluctant or unable to jump down from a bed, counter, or other high places for a while.  This is because the impact on the front feet will be painful.  You can minimize this by helping her down until his/her feet are fully healed.
